Is the European Low Fares Airline Association a joke?
I don’t know if you’ve read the European Low Fares Airline Association’s press release. If not, you should.
The European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) published, on November 15, 2010, a press release informing us that it send a “strongly-worded letter” to the European Commission for Spain’s Generalitat Executive Council taking up €20 million worth stake in Spanair.
The ELFAA denounces scandalous “infusions of funding to airlines in Europe” and sustains that “it cannot be allowed to continue” using “taxpayers’ money to bail out ailing airlines”
This announcement came only a few days after several Spanish newspapers revealed how much public money Ryanair, Vueling and Air Berlin have recently received. Indeed, articles reveal that Ryanair perceives €13M from Gerona Airport authorities alone. While Vueling has triggered a virulent political debate since it concluded a juicy agreement with Cuidad Real Airport worth €2.6M, Air Berlin has also been noticed by the Spanish press for its public money support earnings of public money of 300 000€.
You can check and visit ELFAA members’ presentation webpages. You will notice that those whose published the press release are the same that receive millions in subsidies, namely Vueling and Ryanair.
